3. “Clean Up Your Messâ€
I remember times when I just saw the ‘mess’ and not the engrossed play. I remember the dejected looks when I asked them to clean up their mess. They were not upset at the cleaning but that their creative time had been cut short. I later learned to allow them to keep the ‘mess’ around until their interests led elsewhere. Then it was ok to have them clean and put away.
I was listening to a free teleseminar the other day by an Internet Marketing Millionaire. He had tons of great content websites, steps to success, characteristics of millionaires, ways to drive traffic, etc. But what caught my ear was his entrepreneur exploits as a kid.
As a kid, Matt had a paper route. Every week he had to go to each customer to collect the money for the paper delivery. One day it struck him that all his customers had lawns and so the next time he did collections, he asked if he could mow their lawns. He had so many lawns that he couldn’t possibly do them all himself so he hired his friends to mow the lawns for him. His business sense led him to pay his friends less than he was charging the customers so he made money on every lawn!

2. “Do It This Wayâ€
We are sometimes so caught up in our way of doing things that we have lost the ability to think ‘outside the box.’ Forcing a child to perform a task in a set way stifles their creative thinking. (Children need to learn to be obedient but I am addressing the non-critical areas, their play time. Let them build their fort or contraption the way they want to. Let them experiment.)

Do you know how to sew? Do you know how to make repairs or alternations?
If you can replace buttons, let out cuffs, shorten pants or sleeves, repair tears
there are people willing to pay for your services.
Here is what you do:
* Make a list of what you can do.
* Determine your prices.
* Make a brochure (or just a sheet with your services and prices and contact information)
* Make a poster (around 12×15) with your price list/contact info.
* Go to local dry cleaners and see if they would hire you for these services OR would they be willing to let you post your prices list in their store.
* Post in your local classifieds that you offer these services.
* Go to local clothing stores and see if they are interested in offering alternations to their customers.

1. “That Won’t Workâ€
Has your child ever come to you with their latest idea and your immediate response was a list of the reasons why their idea wouldn’t work? If that was the case then I am sure that they probably didn’t rush to share too many more of their ideas. As parents we have many life experiences that sometimes give us greater insights to possible successful scenarios. However, those same life experiences often prevent us from thinking ‘outside the box.’
Better Response: Ask for more details. Have them explain what problem they are trying to solve. Have them explain how they came up with this approach. Discuss their idea with them. We need to encourage
I have been researching for the best resources for entrepreneurial development. There are many ideas but relatively few books on this topic. I have found numerous ‘like-minded’ individuals and families at Family Business Conference. I will share some of the many things I have learned from this conference.
What is an entrepreneur? Wikipedia defines an entrepreneur as: An entrepreneur is someone who organizes a system to create a product or service in order to gain profit.
I define an entrepreneur as anyone who thinks outside the box and is willing to take risks.
Do you have a child that never does anything the normal way? My son has never done a household chore in the normal way. I used to get frustrated and wonder why he couldn’t just do it the way I taught him. My way was fast and efficient. His way took hours to devise and implement. Read the rest of this entry »
I have several lists of Home Business Ideas. When I first glanced through some of these lists I wasn’t too impressed. However, I failed to see the potential in these lists. These ideas, whether crazy or outdated, provide a great springboard for discussions and brainstorming.
Just don’t take these ideas and immediately throw them out due to preconceived biases. Take these ideas and have a family discussion. Don’t lose heart, this takes a little perseverance. We had a few rolling eyes the first night I tried this. Eventually this led some hilarious discussions and great idea variations.
I will be listing a new idea regularly. (I plan on doing it daily but I know “life” will hamper my good intentions and so ‘regularly’ will work.) If you are anxious to get started and want to read all the ideas in “107 Business Ideas” NOW , just send a blank email to:

(Remember, you will have to confirm that you do want the list.)
I have several other idea generators that I will be sharing with you.
I would love to hear what businesses you are starting. Please leave me a comment.
Today I want to tell you a bit about a home school entrepreneur, Drew Perry. Drew Perry is a homeschooled-country-boy-turned-real-estate-investor.
He attended Christian school until the second grade. When he was 14, he spent a month in Idaho with Chris Verhaegh learning to think differently. During his high school years, he learned many valuable lessons from managing the family farm.
He also invested many years and thousands of dollars in attending a variety of professional conferences to learn about many different areas of life.
He started buying and selling houses when he was 18 and now at 22, his properties generate over $7,000 a month.
He is thrilled to be able share his experiences and knowledge with others who are interested in learning about real estate, especially some of his crazy stories like how he took a four-wheeler as a down payment for a house, and how he sells houses in 7 days or less.
Drew lives at home with his family at the Backside of Nowhere in Southern Tennessee.
PS You can listen to an interview for free! Just go the Family Business Conference, sign up for access, scroll down and look for Chris Verhaegh’s picture and click on the play button. Rhea has also given you access to a downloadable MP3!
